The tunnel cable brackets, also called underground cable brackets are designed for supporting cable runs in manholes and vaults, and they are hot dip galvanized for improved resistance to corrosion. Fabmann offers different underground cable support bracket systems with thicker zinc coating than what is required by ISO EN 1461, and our high quality cable brackets can satisfy different demands by different tunnels such as traffic tunnel, hydropower tunnel and public utility tunnel.

In general, there are four types of tunnels categorized by geological condition, and they are soft soil tunnel, rock tunnel, under river or lake tunnel and undersea tunnel, and different geological condition may contribute to different characters of corrosivity. The general tunnel environment is classified as C3 atmosphere; however, it can also be classified as C4 or C5 if the seepage in some tunnels is severe. C4 environment usually consumes around 2.1μm to 4.2μm of zinc annually, while C5 consumes double of C4's consumption of zinc.
There are various factors that contribute to a corrosive environment:
√ Humidity
√ Seepage (salty water)
√ Concentration of SO2 and Cl pollution and particulate pollution such as brake dust.
√ Galvanic or bimetallic corrosion, caused by two different metals which are in contact in the presence of an electrolyte, such as the salty tunnel seepage water. Therefore, the
stainless steel should be avoided in a tunnel if the construction involves other common structural steels.
In fact, the galvanic corrosion is almost unavoidable due to above mentioned reasons, and therefore the good metal surface treatment like hot dip galvanization to fight against corrosion is extremely important for tunnel cable racking systems which is usually made of structural steel. Fabmann not only provides custom solution to our clients in terms of producing customized cable support posts with different radian or different post styles, but also provides custom galvanization service which has higher standard than requirements specified by ISO EN 1461. So far, our standard offer of galvanization thickness is above 85μm, which means that your cable bracket system will have the first maintenance in 60 years under average C3 environment. We can also achieve average zinc coating thickness above 140μm with sound adhesion, which means the first maintenance will happen in 22 years under average C5 condition.
